4th August CNBC News On Myanmar

There was an interview conducted by CNBC with Bangkok-based Amnesty
International Ms. Donna Guess in which she mentioned that there occurred
some snap-demonstrations in Yangon and Mandalay during the very recent Mrs
Aris? stand-off being staged near a village on the way to Pathein under the
pretext of meeting the party members.

It is quite regretful and obvious that Ms Donna Guess had been misinformed
on the actual situation that took place in Myanmar during that period. No such
snap-demonstrations took place in Yangon and Mandalay and in fact nothing of
that nature even existed in the country at all. The overwhelming majority of
the Myanmar people are fully aware of the political stunt orchestrated by the
NLD together with some western embassies to destabilize the prevailing peace
and tranquillity in the country. They are also aware that simultaneously in
the Manila Meetings a wedge has been driven to undermine the unity of the
ASEAN by the proposal to experiment the ?flexible engagement? which will serve
to divide, not strengthen the association at this stage of its developoment.

To quote Singapore Foreign Minister?s statement, ?The surest and quickest
way to ruin is for ASEAN countries to begin commenting on how each of us deals
with sensitive issues---- ASEAN countries? consistent adherence to this
principle is the key reason why no military conflict has broken out between
any two ASEAN countries since the founding of ASEAN.?

It was due to the above mentioned factors, no such incident which Ms. Donna
Guess mentioned in the interview by CNBC actually took place in Myanmar and
hopefully Ms. Guess will in the future scrutinize her source of information
before giving any statement or interview.
