Security guards remain at Aung San Suu Kyi's house

The opposition National League for Democracy in Burma says the military
authorities have refused a request by Aung San Suu Kyi for the removal of
security guards from the grounds of her residence in Rangoon.

Guards have been stationed in the compound since she was released from
house arrest six years ago.

A statement by the NLD described the guards' presence as an unlawful
restriction.

Last week, Aung San Suu Kyi was taken back to Rangoon against her will
after spending six days in her car in a protest against military
restrictions.

The human rights organisation Amnesty International has appealed for the
release of ten political prisoners who they say warrant special
humanitarian consideration.

The appeal comes on the eve of the tenth anniversary of a violent drive
against democracy activists by the military government.
