YANGON (Aug. 13) XINHUA - The Myanmar authorities are
interrogating the 18 detained foreigners for allegedly
attempting to
incite unrest in the country, the official newspaper The New
Light of
            Myanmar reported Thursday.

The eighteen foreigners, who were caught last Sunday in the
capital of
Yangon, are reportedly from the United States, Australia,
Indonesia,
            Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

On the request of the United States and Indonesian embassies
here,
the authorities permitted on Tuesday diplomats of the two
embassies
to meet with their citizens under detention.

The foreigners, who arrived here last Friday, distributed in
downtown
Yangon instigative leaflets smuggled into the country,
voicing support
for the Myanmar people in their struggle for human rights
and
            democracy.
