Military Junta's Position

According to surveys from Think-Tanks, Political Risk Consulting Firms

!. The SPDC junta scores among worst three human right abusers
============================================
In its Human Rights Index, the London Observer ranked the junta one of
the world's 3 worst abuser's of human rights for its record of torture,
tyranny, killings and persecution.
                                             ==========================

2. The junta near the bottom on economic freedom

In its 1998 index of Economic Freedom, the Heritage Foundation, an
American think-tank, ranked Burma as one of the world's less free
countries. It scored 140th, tied with Rwanda and just behind Sudan.

3. The junta turns Burma into world's fifth riskiest country for
investment.

A new survey on investment risks by Merchant International Group, a
London-based management consultant firm surveyed 7,000 international
companies and found Burma to be the fifth worst investment risk in the
world because of factors including corruption and cronyism.
                                                     ================

4. The junta among sixth worst overspenders on arms.

In its annual survey of weapons purchases, The Bonn International Centre
for conversion ranked Burma's military regime near the very top levels
of military spending. The 1998 index found that while most of the
countries in the world continue to decrease military spending, Burma's
junta continues to expend an enormous share of its resources on its
military.

The regime's military spending ranked it among the sixth worst
overspenders in the world along with Armenia, Sudan, Burundi, Sri Lanka,
and Rwanda.

Although the regime can afford to purchase new military hardware, it has
all but zeroed out apending on education and health.

==============

The New York Times recently report that maternal mortality rates in
Burma are 43 times higher than in United States.

With regard to the poor health care system in Burma, I have one true
story to share with my fellow activists.
There was a man who is a brother-in-law of Dy PM Mg Mg Khin. His sister
is O&G specialist who is a wife of Mg Mg Khin.
He suffered from jaundice and pain in the abdomen. Ultrasound was done
in Rangoon and the result showed
normal. He was treated as just a simple case of hepatitis, but without
any improvement.
Ultrasound was done again and the result was perfectly normal.
You all can imagine that this gentleman is a relative of militaryVIP. He
got the best and special medical attention. Inspite of special care and
treatment , his condition became worst and because he got his daughter
who is also a medical doctor in Singapore, he went there for medical
check-up.

Ultrasound was done again in Singapore and the result was cancer of the
liver, and in the ultrasound film, the cancer mass is about 6cm x 9 cm
in size. He lived for only 5 months and passed away.

So this is the standard of health care in Burma under the brutal and
corrupted regime. Ultrasound done in Burma for 2 times and why the
result was normal? why isn't cancer mass be seen ?
The answer is very simple. The machines are old and not functioning
well.
This is a VIP relative. He can afford to go overseas for further
treatment. Even then, in his case, because the diagnosis was late, he
could not survive longer.
" One can imagine how the ordinary civilians fare."

Uncountable people are dying in Burma, from lack of proper health care
system.

Here, I would like ask my teacher Dr Kyaw Win
************************************
When you have to obey the dictator's orders , do you really feel happy ?

Do you really feel proud of what you are doing now ?
Does Hippocratic oath still has any significant meaning to you?

As a Buddhist,.... Please let me" pay homage " to you if I have done (
mentally as well as verbally ) something wrong to you.

With best regards,
