Delhi based Chins' Statement



STATEMENT ON NLD DEMAND FOR CONVENING OF PARLIAMENT

1. May 1990 election is the result of 1988 pro-democracy uprising.
 
2. May, 1988 general uprising in Burma is inevitable outcome of continued
     ethnic conflict leading to more than half a century civil war due to
not implementation of Pang Long agreement in pre-independence period.
 
3. The military Junta is obliged to recognize the NLD party, winner of 1990
election.
 
4. The power must be transferred to NLD at once without any hindrance and
hesitation.
 
5. The interim government formed by the NLD must hold a National Convention
for peaceful negotiation settlement with other nationals in frontier areas.
 
6. Based on the outcome of National Convention a federal constitution is to
be formulated.
 
7. The interim government, than, must hold a free and fair general election
according to the Constitution.

8. Thus, we, the Chin Nationals in New Delhi unanimously and
whole-heartedly support NLD's demand for convening a parliament by the
deadline August 21,1998.
