Thailand detains 17 Myanmar student protesters

from Myanmar who staged a three-week protest in front of the Myanmar Embassy
in Bangkok to demand a dialogue between pro-democracy forces and Myanmar's
ruling junta, a local nongovernmental organization said Monday. 

The students are members of various Bangkok-based organizations, including the
All Burma Students' Democratic Front, the group said, adding that 12 students
were detained Sunday and five more were detained Monday morning. 

A police officer said the students have not been charged. The officer said
they were removed from the scene because they were blocking the entrance to
the embassy.
