Burma students held after rally

Reports from Burma say police detained a number of people after breaking up
a student demonstration in the capital, Rangoon.

It was the first protest by students in the capital for two years.

The reports say armed riot police dispersed about one-thousand people who
had gathered to support a student pro-democracy rally.

The police were seen taking away two truck-loads of demonstrators.

The protest coincided with the end of a thirteen-day roadside vigil by the
Burmese opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, against the military
government's restrictions on her movements.

Her party, the National League for Democracy, had appealed to her to end
her second roadside protest because of concerns about her health.
