Burma's sacred pagoda reopened

The most sacred pagoda in Burma, the Shwedagon, has reopened after a
one-day occupation by security forces who said they were conducting a clean
up.

The pagoda was closed amidst fears of political protest, on the tenth
anniversary of the maiden speech given there by the opposition leader Aung
San Suu Kyi in 1988.

The governmen says it remains willing to meet leaders of the opposition
National League for Democracy, the NLD but not the leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
