1. The number of additional NLD members that have been illegally 
arrested and detained as of  10/9/98 (16:00 hours) are:-

Pyithu Hluttaw elected members 			    4

Organising committee members and other
members from states, divisions, 
townships, villages and wards				139

Total							143

2. Yesterday (9.9.98) 8 members from organising committees in Rangoon 
Division, Thingangyun township ( township, ward and village levels) were 
released.

3. Therefore the present position of the arrested is as follows:-

Pyithu Hluttaw elected members 			187 + 4 = 193

Organising committee members and 
other members from states,
Divisions, townships, villages and wards  334 - 8 = 326 + 139 = 465

Statement No: 53(9/98)

1. An invitation to U Than Tun and U Soe Myint, Central Executive 
Committee members of the National League for Democracy was received from 
the Bahan township SPDC to meet with its chairman and the chairman of 
the division. The invitation reads:-
" We desire to meet and talk. Come to the office of the SPDC Bahan 
township without fail on the 11th September, 13:00 hours."

	The subject of the letter indicated that it was an invitation to meet 
for a discussion and it was received at 12:45 hours.

2. This letter issued from a township level to Central Executive 
Committee members giving 15 minutes to attend  " without fail " at their 
office, not stating the matter to be discussed can not be seen as an 
invitation. Rather it appears to be an order that is deceptive and 
arrogant.
