British 'infatuated' with Suu Kyi, says Burma

Burma has accused the British government of being infatuated with the
Burmese opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, and says London seeks to
promote her cause at any cost.

The charge was made in a letter from Burma's ambassador in Washington, Tin
Winn, to a Foreign Office minister, which was released in Rangoon.

It follows a call for a further tightening of sanctions against Burma, by
the minister, because of the human rights record of the military junta.

The ambassador said tighter sanctions would be blunt and immoral and hurt
only the poorest in Burma.
