(1)		Masses of Myeik Region of Taninthayi Division Pledge to Safeguard
Already-achieved Stability, Peace and Economic Progress

		Over 23,000 people from various strata of life from Myeik region of
Taninthayi Division expressed their genuine desire at a mass meeting held at
the People's Sports Ground in Myeik Township on 24 October. Present were
members of Red Cross Brigade, Auxiliary Fire Brigade, Maternal and Child
Welfare Association, Taninthayi Division Women's Affairs Committee, Union
Solidarity and Development Association, Fisheries Entrepreneurs Association,
Writers and Journalist Association, Medical Association, Nurses Association,
War Veteran's Organization, Trawlers Association, Merchants Association,
Industrial Entrepreneurs Association, Traditional Artistes and Artisans
Asiayon, Thabin Asiayon, Vehicles Association, Shopkeepers Association, Inland
Freight Handling Workers Association, Rubber Entrepreneurs Association, Dry
Betel Nuts Trading Association, Cashew Nuts Entrepreneurs Association, Slow
Moving Vehicles Association, Rice Dealers Association, Rice Millers
Association, Saw Millers Association, Bamboo and Thatch Works Association,
Motorcycle Owners Association, Cottage Industries Entrepreneurs Association,
Goldsmith Workers Association, Ice Factory Owners Association, Dried Fish
Entrepreneurs Association, Livestock Breeding Entrepreneurs Association,
Companies' Staff Association and people of 12 wards in Myeik Township, Pulaw,
Kyunsu and Taninthayi Townships. At the meeting speakers tabled and seconded
two motions calling for safeguarding and maintaining economic development and
better conditions of food, clothing and shelter needs of the people and
maintaining and safeguarding stability of the state which has already been
achieved. 

(2)		Myanmar Veterinary Association Holds Seventh Conference

		The Seventh Veterinary Conference organized by Myanmar Veterinary
Association was held in Yangon University Diamond Jubilee Hall on Pyay Road on
24 October with an address by Chairman of the National Health Committee
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt Gen Khin Nyunt.
Citing the objectives of the association, the Secretary-1 said the association
is engaged in the activities for uplift of the standard of veterinary science
and livestock technology and boosting production in the livestock and
fisheries sector. The government, he said, paid serious attention to uplift of
professional skill of veterinary doctors and enabling them to apply their
know-how in national interests. 

(3)		Intl Symposium on Interaction for Progress: Myanmar in ASEAN Ends

		The second and final day of International Symposium on Interaction for
Progress: Myanmar in ASEAN, sponsored by the Office of Strategic Studies of
the Ministry of Defence, Information and Resource Centre of Singapore and
Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan went on at Sedona Hotel on Kaba Aye Road on
24 October. Present at the symposium were heads of departments of OSS,
advisers to the ministers, retired scholars, historians, rectors, pro-rectors
and professors of the universities, representatives of Cambodia, Indonesia,
Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, officials
of Information and Resource Centre of Singapore and Sasakawa Peace Foundation
of Japan, departmental officials, officials of NGOs, private entrepreneurs,
guests and observers. Deputy Director-General of Directorate of Investment and
Companies Administration and Legal Expert at the Ministry of National Planning
and Economic Development Dr Tun Shin presided over the first-session of second
day programme of the symposium and spoke on the occasion. Ong and Lau Law
Office and former Member of Parliament, Partner, Dr Lau Teik Soon presented a
paper on Institutional Development in ASEAN. Rector of Yangon University Dr
Tin Aung Aye and President of Far Eastern University, Manila, the Philippines,
Professor Mr  Edilberto de Jesus gave suggestions on the paper. In the
afternoon, Director of Information & Resource Center of Singapore Mr M
Rajaretnam chaired the second session of second day of the symposium and
delivered an opening address. Director-General U Kyaw Tint Swe of
International Organizations and Economic Department of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs presented a paper on Myanmar in ASEAN: Cooperation for Development.
Executive Director of Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Race Mr Kao Kim
Hourn gave suggestions on the paper.

More NLD Members Return Home After Successful Exchange of Views on National
Security

		The Government has been meeting with the National League for Democracy
members since September, in an effort to work together toward national peace
and stability in Myanmar. The meetings are being held in a cordial atmosphere
in Government guest houses.
		Many of those invited for the talks have returned home in recent weeks. On
October 20, U Aye Myint returned home, and on October 21 U Sein Myint, U
Thaung Tin and U Thaung Yee also returned home and on October 22 U Saw Thein,
U Yan Shwe, U Maung Shwe, U Tin Shwe, U Thein Aung, U Htun Khine, U Khin
Maung, U Shwe Mya, U Aung Kyaw Win, U Chit Htwe, U Thein Zan, U Htun Kyine, U
Shwe Than, U Pyu Aung, U Maung Maung, U Nan Aung and U Kyaw Nu returned home.
Again, on 24 October U Than Lwin, U Htun Shwe, U Thaung Sein, U Aye Naing, U
Nyein Myint, U Myint Thwe, U Thaung, U Myint Than Htun, U Kyi Lwin, U Chit
returned home and on 25 October U Tin Maung Win, U Than Aung, U Win Shwe, U
Mya Win, U Htun Myint, U Than Nyunt, U Kyaw Aye Win, U Soe Myint, U Tin Aye
and Daw Htwe Yee returned home while several other members went back home for
the week end.
