(1)		Bridge Across Dokehtawady River Inaugurated

		A bridge across Dokehtawady River was inaugurated at the entrance to
Mandalay International Airport in TadaU Township on 26 January. The bridge was
built for convenience of local people during monsoon, providing access  to
Mandalay International Airport, better transport for tourists visiting ancient
regions such as Innwa and Sagaing and regional development. The pre-stressed
and reinforced concrete bridge, 700 feet long and 72 feet wide, with two six
feet wide pedestrian lanes on both sides was built at a cost of over K 399
million.

(2)		Deputy Prime Minister Meets President of Esperant Co Ltd

		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission met President of Esperant Co Ltd
Mr. Kazuoki Inoue and party who called at his office on 27 January. They
discussed matters related to construction of a golf resort in Myanmar.

(3)		Minister Meets Official of Singapore International Foundation

		Minister for Health met Mr. Chen Chin Chi and party of Singapore
International Foundation who called at his office on 27 January. They
discussed matters related to conducting course on health of infant and safe
delivery of mothers.

(4)		Accel International Co Ltd Holds Prize Presentation Ceremony of Canon
Asia Pacific Photo Contest' 97

		Accel International Co Ltd held the presentation of awards of Canon Asia
Pacific Photo Contest' 97 and Official Launch of International Standard
Service Centre for Canon Camera at Traders Hotel on 27 January. Managing
Director of Accel International Co Ltd Mr. Alvin Law extended greetings. Then,
Minister for Information presented prizes to Honourable Mention U Sein Maung
and Commemorative winners U Thein Htay Aung and Ko Kyaw Lin (Hline).
Afterwards, MD of Canon Singapore Pte Ltd Mr. Kohtaro Miyagi and General
Manager Mr. Howard Ozawa explained about the service centre and EOS 88 canon
camera.

(5)		1,012.5 Gallons of Ether Seized in Kutkai

		A combined team comprising members of the regional battalion of the Tatmadaw
(Defence Services) and the intelligence unit, acting on information, combed
the region covering Monkoe, Tarmoenye in Naungkham Camp Hill and Mon-taungba
in Shan  State (North) on 4 January. At the map reference (P-145613), the team

found suspicious Trawler-G driven by San Aye from Panlot Village, Hseinwi
Township, and stopped and searched it. The team seized 225 five-gallon plastic
containers of ether totalling 1,012.5 gallons. Kutkai Township Police Station
opened the case and is taking action against him according to the Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(6)		Four State-owned Factories, Seven Rice Mills, 57 Cinemas to be Privatized
		Four State-owned factories, seven rice mills and 57 cinemas will be
privatized through competitive bidding. Individuals or organizations wishing
to buy them should send their sealed tenders to Privatization Commission
Office (Project Appraisal and Progress Reporting Department), 313, Bo Aung
Kyaw Street, Yangon, not later than 4 pm on 5 March 1999. The bidding will be
based on floor prices mentioned against the names of respective factories,
mills and cinemas. Sale of the facilities includes land, buildings, machinery,
telephones and meters (if any). Priority will  be given to original owners if
they are nationals and their last bid is the same as that of the other highest
bidder. They should submit with firm evidence that they are the original
owners. For persons who have the right to claim inheritance, they must present
the complete set of the original copy of the letter of authority. For the
nationals who are not the original owners, priority will be given to the
highest bidder.

		Persons or organizations to whom the facilities have been transferred are to
continue to carry out the original business. These persons or organizations
have the right to conduct other enterprises which are related to the original
businesses or other enterprises which can develop the original business in the
interests of the people. Persons or organizations who are permitted to buy the
facility should pay 10 per cent of the value of the facility as earnest money
within ten days from the date the Privatization Commission has issued the
permit. Another 25 per cent of the value is to be paid within 14 days from the
date the permit has been confirmed. If the value of the facility is less than
K 10 million, the remaining 65 per cent of the total payable cash should be
paid within 60 days from the date 25 per cent of the value has been paid and
if the value of the facility is K 10 million or more, the remaining 65 per
cent shall be paid within 120 days . Payment can be made in one instalment for
the entire cost. Cash paid as the earnest money will be impounded and the
permit will be revoked for failure to pay the remaining portion. The facility
will be transferred to the entrepreneur within 14 days after the cash has been
paid. Yangon City Development Committee will issue the land grants to the
persons or organizations who bought the factories, mills or cinemas within
Yangon City area, Mandalay City Development Committee within Mandalay City
area and General Administration Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs,
which is taking the land management duties, in townships which are outside the
Yangon City and Mandalay City areas. Persons or organizations wishing to buy
the facilities are to furnish the prescribed forms before submitting
