(1)	Heroin Blocks, Stimulant Tablets, Machinery Seized

	A duty conscious person informed Tachileik Anti-Drug Squad at about 6 am on
24 January that a large amount of narcotic drugs and machinery had been hidden
in the house of Sai Kyauk, Meikhong Ward, Tachileik Township; that of Sai Um
Kham, Macao Kham Ward, that of Sai Um Kham, Macao Kham Ward and that of Sai
Kyauk, Hsamsai Upper Ward. According to the information, under the leadership
of regional battalion, members of Defence Services Intelligence Unit, Myanmar
Police Force, Anti-Drug Squad of MPF, Special Investigation Division of MPF,
Bureau of Special Investigation and Customs Department raided the houses and
nabbed Sai Kyauk with a car used in drugs trafficking and chemical substances.
The drugs and paraphernalia seized were:
	(1)	145 cakes of heroin weighing 53.42 kilos
	(2)	a machine used for production of stimulant tablets
	(3)	502,000 WY brand stimulant tablets
	(4)	3.3 kilos of WY brand stimulant tablets
	(5)	9.7 kilos of stimulant powder
	(6)	28.5 kilos of whitish ephedrine powder
	(7)	Five kilos of orange colour dye powder
	(8)	50 rounds of .22 ammunition made in US
	(9)	One C-100 motor-cycle

	The authorities also nabbed Sai Um Kham and seized the paraphernalia. Sai Aik
Khwe and Aik Tip were nabbed in the house of Sai Aik Khwe's house and the
paraphernalia were seized. Acting on information given by Aik Tip, the team
also raided the house of Sai Kyauk and seized from the apparatus used in
making stimulant tablets.
	Members of the combined anti-drug squad have resolved to eradicate narcotic
drugs as a national duty, and have been incessantly destroying them. Effective
action will be taken against the five persons nabbed with the narcotic drugs.

(2)	Myanmar Delegation Arrives Back from Singapore

	Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Hotels and Tourism arrived back Yangon
on 30 January after attending ASEAN ministerial meeting on tourism held in
Singapore. The delegation attended meetings of ASEAN Communications Team for
Tourism (ACTT) and 9th ASEAN National Tourism Organizations held at Marina
Mandarin Hotel from 25 to 27 January. On 28 January, the delegation attended
ASEAN Tourism Forum'99 held at Pan Pacific Hotel, the second ASEAN Tourism
Ministers' meeting and a press conference. The delegates visited Travex at

Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The delegates
discussed holding of Visit ASEAN Year in 2002, publicity on ASEAN region,
establishment of an ASEAN Tourism Training Centre, drafting of eco-tourism
projects, attraction of local and foreign investments and uplift of air
transport and others at the second ASEAN Tourism Ministers' meeting and 9th
ASEAN National Tourism Organizations. Wonders of Southeast Asia and the ASEAN
Tourism investment Guide were published at the meeting and they will be
distributed worldwide.

(3)	AWB to Use Safe Deposit Locker, Gift Cheque

	The seminar on the use of safe deposit locker and gift cheque organized by
the Asia Wealth Bank was held at Equatorial Hotel on 30 January. AWB Vice-
Chairman extended greetings to the guests. Next, Managing Director gave a
presentation on the safe deposit locker and on the gift cheque. After the
seminar, the guests observed the samples of the safe deposit locker and gift
cheque to be introduced by AWB starting 1 February 1999.

(4)	3D Imax Digital Theatre Opens

	The opening ceremony of newly-built Digital Theatre was held in Yangon
Zoological Gardens on 30 January. It is the first to be opened in the country
in which the programmes can be enjoyed by the audience on the specially
created 3D sdreen, which is called Imax world-wide, with the use of Polaroid
viewers. The programme "Under Water World" with a duration of 15 minutes and
another with a duration of 12 minutes were produced by Ikegami Co Ltd of
Japan. The spectators can enjoy them in the theatre equipped with world-class
facilities. The theatre is open to the public daily.
