(1)		New Modern Terminal of Kawthoung Airport Commissioned into Service
		The new modern terminal building of Kawthoung Airport of the Department of
Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport was put into services on 6
February. The original Kawthoung Airport was just a small one used for
military purpose during the World War II, and it was rebuilt in 1959 to become
an airport with a 4,200 feet long and 50 feet wide runway, and the
reconstruction work finished in 1963, and the runway could be used by 28,000
lb. planes. In 1970, the runway was reconstructed with stone and asphalt, and
since 1975, it had been safe enough for the landing of 45,000 lb. Fokker F-27
carriers. Reconstruction of the present runway to become 6,000 feet long and
150 feet wide started on 12 December 1992 and it could be put into service on
24 December 1995. The new runway is enough for safe landing of 15,000 lb.
Boeing 737 and that a single-storey terminal building, 90 feet long and 53
feet wide, was built in January 1992, and for convenience of the increasing
number of passengers, a new modern terminal was built. The new terminal is a
300-ft-by-80-ft reinforced concrete building that can be used by 250 incoming
and 250 outgoing passengers simultaneously. The building is equipped with
modern installations and has large parking spaces.

(2)		Lashio Communication Station, Lashio-Muse Digital Microwave Link Put into
Service													A communication station of Myanma Posts and
Telecommunications was opened in Lashio on 2 February. Lashio-Muse digital
microwave new link was commissioned into service on 4 February. Of the nine
microwave stations covered by lashio-Muse microwave link, seven have been
built.

(3)		Myanmar Delegation Leaves for Singapore
		Myanmar Education Delegation led by Minister for Education left Yangon by
air on 6 February morning for Singapore to attend the 34th South East Asian
Ministers of Education Council Conference to be held from 7 to 9 February in
Singapore.

(4)		YTU Holds 31st Convocation
		The Yangon Technological University held its 31st convocation at Yangon
University Convocation Hall on 6 February morning. The rector conferred on 103
M.E. and M.Arch., 36 post-graduate diploma, 688 B.E. and B.Arch. graduates and
105 M.E., M.Phil. and post-graduate diploma in absentia.
