(1)		312.14 Kilos of Ephedrine Powder Seized

		Acting on information, a combined team comprising members of the regional
intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force and departmental officials,
searched Mandalay-bound Toyota Hilux (3A/4607) coming from Tamu near the
border of Myanmar and India on 2 February. The team seized 312.14 kilos of
ephedrine powder and arrested driver Myint Win (a) Hsanshe, Monywa, and San
Lwin (a) La Lyanna, Tamu, and Ma Khin Hta Yee (a) Byet Ki, Boakkan Village,
Tamu Township. Effective action will be taken against them according to the
law.

(2)		Seminar on Agro-based Products Held

		Seminar on Agro-based Products and Processed Food Market and Possibilities
of Exporting Agro-based Processed Food Products of Myanmar was held at Myanma
Agriculture Service Head Office in Yankin Township on 10 February with the co-
sponsorship of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Ministry of
Agriculture and Irrigation. At the seminar, Expert Mr. Eiichiro Koizumi
explained about Japan's processed food market condition and possibilities of
exporting agro-based processed food products of Myanmar.

(3)		Deputy Minister Meets ICRC Officials 

		Deputy Minister for Home Affairs met representatives in Yangon of the
International Committee of the Red Cross Mr. Rene Baeriswyl and Mr. Leon de
Riedmatten who called at the Ministry of Home Affairs on 9 February.

(4)		Pakistan Beat Myanmar 4-2 in Final Friendly Hockey

		Pakistan International Airlines club team beat Myanmar team 4-2 in the final
friendly hockey match which took place in Theinbyu Hockey Pitch on 10
February. During the interval, the Ambassador of Pakistan and Mr. Ayaz Mahmood
of Pakistani team exchanged souvenirs with the minister and Myanmar officials.

Dr. Thida Pardoned, Released From Jail

		The Government of Myanmar has announced today that, on consideration of
humanitarian ground, it had granted a pardon to Dr. Thida (a) Ma Thida and
released her from prison.
		Dr.  Thida, 34, was sentenced on 15 October 1993 to a total of twenty years
imprisonment under the (a) Emergency Provision Act of 1950 (b) Unlawful
Association Act (c) 2 separate charges under Provision (7) and Provision (20)
of the Printers and Publishers Registration Act, after being found guilty of
illegal distribution of materials published by armed terrorist groups and

unlawful organizations. She was given a pardon and released on February
11,1999.
