Attn: State Government Political Reporter.
Burmese Community, Students Rally for Boycott of Burmese Dictatorship.
Members of the Burmese Community, ABSDO and the National Union of
Student's Free Burma Student Network will rally tomorrow (Friday 12th
Feb), the 52nd Union day of Burma, at 12 noon, outside of NSW
Parliament. They will rally to demand that the Government and Opposition
to commit to boycotting companies which have economic links with the
Burmese Military Regime.
"Companies with investments in Burma prop-up a the brutal and barbaric
Military Junta. By boycotting these companies the state government would
send a strong message to the Junta that their rule is illegitimate and
economically inviable." said Maung Maung Than, Secretary of the All
Burma Student Democratic Organization.
"The Military Junta are not benign dictators. The tens of thousands
currently in forced labor camps, the 5,000 political prisoners, and the
lives of over 10,000 pro-democracy activists are testament to this. A
strong stand by the NSW Government, however, would send a powerful
message to the Burmese Regime." said Nick Harrigan, National Union of
Student, Education Officer (NSW).

The rally will proceed to Thai consulate to protest the human rights abuse
of Burmese political refugees at the border , Special detention center and
Rachburi students center.
