REPATRIATION
250 refugee families are sent home
Trat
Some 250 families out of the 14,500 Cambodians at a refugee camp here have
been
sent home since Monday.
After a ceremony involving local authorities and the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees, the refugees, armed with food supplies, walked from
Ban Khao Phlu camp in Muang district to the Thai-Cambodian border to cross to
their homeland.
The repatriation was financially sponsored by the UNHCR, which provided each
refugee 250 baht for transportation fees, agricultural tools and food supplies
for 50-day consumption.
Cambodian authorities also agreed to provide six rai of land in Battambang's
Lamlod district for each refugee family, said Capt Nakhon Kosolsuraseenee,
commander of Trat's special navy task force.
