Singapore-Myanmar Ministerial Working Committee Due to Meet next Week

           SINGAPORE (Feb. 18) XINHUA - Three Singapore ministers
           will visit Myanmar next week to promote economic
           cooperation between Singapore and Myanmar, the
           Singapore government announced here Thursday. 

           Singapore Minister for Trade and Industry Lee Yock Suan
           will lead the ministerial delegation, that includes Minister
for
           Communication Mah Bow Tan and Minister for National
           Development and Second Minister for Finance Lim Hng
           Kiang, to attend the third Joint Ministerial Working
           Committee (JMWC) meeting to be held in Yangon, Myanmar,
           on February 23. 

           The press release said the meeting to be chaired by Lee
           Yock Suan and Khin Nyunt, secretary of Myanmar's State
           Peace and Development Council, will review the progress of
           bilateral cooperation in tourism, agro-business and training
           since the second JMWC meeting which was held in
           Singapore in October 1997. 

           According to the press release, an avoidance of double
           taxation agreement will be singed and a tourism consultancy
           report on Yangon completed by the Singapore Tourism
           Board will also be presented to Myanmar's Ministry of Hotels
           and Tourism. 

           During their visit, the Singapore ministers will also call on
           Senior General Than Shwe, prime minister of the Union of
           Myanmar and chairman of the State Peace and
           Development Council.
