THE 52ND UNION DAY FUNCTION IN NEW DELHI

Regarding this very cause of celebrating the Union Day in New Delhi,
there were series of meetings and negotiation within the opposition
groups in New Delhi. The last meeting, held on Feb. 10, formed a
17-member "celebration committee," which organized and worked on the
cause, later.


The celebration function took place at Janta Quarter, Janakpuri in New
Delhi, India, started at 10 A.M., attended by some 120 people. In the
attendences, there were members of the organizations like the ALP, CNF,
NCUB, CNC, NCGUB, PLF, ABSL, NLD/LA, DSB, CNAB, FTUB, DVB, DEPW, WRWAB,
CWO, BLC and other individuals.


An NCGUB minister for South Asian affairs, Dr. Tint Swe, chaired the
function, which was  co-chaired by "ethnic representatives" of Shan,
Burman, Chin, Arakan, Karen, and Kachin.


At the function, the Burmese political organizations like the NCGUB,
FTUB, CNF, ALP, PLF, CNAB, ABSL and NCUB read out their political
statements at the function. An all-party statement was also issued,
presented and read out by a celebration committee member.


There was political "paper presentation" agenda, in which Dr. Zaw Win
Aung of the FTUB, and Ko Nyi Nyi Lwin of the ABSL presented their
papers.


As part of the entertainment-cum-honor agenda, some 10 youth sang two
tribute songs, at the function. This was followed by a serving of Burmese
food, which concluded the function, at 3 P.M.


In sports, on 11th Feb., in honor of the 52nd Union Day, there were:

Badminton competition of men's doubles;

Badminton competition of women's singles;

Takraw competition of men;

100m running competition of women;

50m running competition of children; and

50m-obstacles running competition of children, in Janakpuri, New Delhi.


All the winners were awared at the 12th-day function.
