(1)		Secretary-1 Receives Members of Young Presidents' 	Organization
		Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of
Myanmar Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received members of the United States-based  YPO
(Young Presidents' Organization) who called at NO 2 Tatmadaw (Defence
Services) Guest House on Inya Road in Kamayut township on 13 March.
Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt extended  greetings to the members of YPO. Next,
a ceremony to explain current situation of political, economic and social and
local and foreign investment of the Union of Myanmar to the members of YPO was
held there.  Head of Department of the Office of Strategic  Studies Col. Thein
Swe acted as master of ceremonies.  Minister at the State Peace and
Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel explained economic
development and  local and foreign investment of the Union of Myanmar.  U
Thein Wai of FMI Co then  introduced the local  entrepreneurs to those present
at the ceremony. Lt-Col Hla Min of the Office  of Strategic Studies of the
Ministry of Defence and Minister Brig-Gen Abel answered the queries raised by
members of YPO.
(2)		Chief Justice Arrives Back From SRV
		Myanmar delegation led by Chief Justice  arrived back Yangon  by air on 12
March from Vietnam after attending  the Ad-hoc Committee Meeting  on the Role
of ASEAN Legislative bodies in Face of the Regional Economic and Financial
Crisis held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 9 to 12 March. The Chief Justice was
accompanied by Secretary of Work Committee for National Convention Convening
Commission U Aye Maung. Chief Justice also attended a Seminar dealing with
environmental conservation held in Manila, the Philippines, from 5 to 7 March.
(3)		Immigration Officials Murdered
		On 23 February, 14 Immigration Officials after finishing their tenure left
the (3) Pagoda Pass (border check point on Myanmar side of  Myanmar-Thai
border) by motor vehicles to join their respective families in Than Phyu Zayat
Township of Kayin State. On the way to Than Phyu Zayat the vehicle was stopped
by an armed group of Kayin  National Union (KNU) members near Nan Gwin

village. (16 miles away from 3 Pagoda Pass).
		In the ensuing process 4 immigration officials managed to escape while the
following (10) were forcibly taken away by the KNU group; (1) U Aung Min (2) U
Kyaw Naing (3) U Win Myint Aung (4) U Kyaw  Myo Aung (5) U Win Aung Kyaw (6) U
Win Naing Oo (7) U Saing Thar Sein (8) U Khine Lin Latt (9) U Htun Tin (10) U
Yai Pe Thar.
		This incident was informed directly to KNU H.Q. on 26 February by
responsible government officials and again through the peace mediators on 27
February. The Head of KNU Intelligence, Soe Soe was also informed that the
government will not send troops but rather have them released through peaceful
negotiations and mutual understanding in order to avoid skirmishes and
unnecessary bloodshed. 
		Soe Soe confirmed that Brigade (6) of KNU was involved in this  incident and
promised to release them through border town of Myawadi. On 1 of March, Soe
Soe informed the government officials that the Immigration officials were
treated well and medical attention was provided to those needed. On 2nd of
March, Soe Soe again  mentioned that Bo Mya, Chairman of KNU will personally
hand-over the 10 Immigration officials to the government side and the date for
the handing-over will be informed in due course.
		On the morning of 4 March, Soe Soe informed the  government officials that
on 28 of February the (10) Immigration officials were killed during a
skirmish.
