(1)		11th Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Physicians Conference Begins
		A ceremony to open the 11th Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Physicians Conference
was held at the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital on Natmauk Street in Bahan
Township on 18 March. A total of 30 papers including 13 papers on eye
treatment and 17 on ear, nose and throat treatment were submitted. The
conference will continue till 20 March. Altogether 22 medical companies opened
16 booths at the exhibition.
(2)		National Iodine Deficiency Elimination Day to be Observed by National
				Movement
		The Leading Committee for Observance of the National Iodine Deficiency
Elimination Day (NIDED) held its first meeting at the Doctors Training School
on 18 March for materialisation of the aim for national iodine deficiency
elimination, the Universal Salt Iodization (USI) method is being applied, and
noted that it is one of the most cost-effective methods for elimination of
iodine deficiency. The USI method proves to be reliable and cost-effective in
various parts of the country and that consumption of iodized salt brings about
good results in Myanmar. The strategies of the Ministry of Health in
implementing the iodine deficiency elimination project and cooperation with
Myanma Salt and Marine Chemical Enterprise as well as with other NGOs and
private salt entrepreneurs were explained and due to these tasks, consumption
of iodine salt has increased considerably and the cases of goitre have
declined. These activities would make the world's nations know that the Iodine
Deficiency Elimination Project is being implemented seriously with momentum by
means of cooperation of departments and the entire public with the
government's leadership. 
(3)		Jade Lots Sold Through Competitive Bidding 
		The 36th Myanma Gems Emporium took place with the sale of gems and jade at
Myanmar Gems Emporium Hall on Kaba-Aye Pagoda Road from 9 am to 5 pm on 18
March. A total of 181 lots of jade were sold by tender system. Sales of jade
figurines, gems, jade and gems ornaments at fixed prices were also sold. The
sales of jade lots through competitive bidding will continue on 18 March.
