INDONESIA
Jakarta : Top Australian and Indonesian military brass met in the city for
three days of talks on ways to encourage reform in the military. The
Australians say reformists, including Armed Forces Commander Gen. Wiranto,
recognize that the old ways of doing things are no longer viable and
significant elements of the military want to see a successful Indonesia in
which the armed forces no longer play a dominant role.

WOMEN'S RIGHTS
Next year, women will be able to submit complaints to the United Nations on
sex descrimination, sexual harassment and other violations of their rights
if they do not receive justice at home under the newly ratified Convention
on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
