             Burma angry at criticism

Burma has reacted angrily to condemnation of its human
rights record by the United Nations.

A spokesman for the military government said the
resolution had been based on politically motivated
             allegations from its opponents.

The UN Human Rights Commission accused Burma of
             widespread violations, including summary executions,
torture, abuse of women and forced labour.

It said the government had increased persecution of the
opposition party and its leader Aung San Suu-Kyi.
