Subject: Statement about Palaung Youth Network Group
(1)The first preliminary meeting of Palaung Youth was held in Manaplaw,
the KNU Hardquaters on the 20th of March, 1993. As a result, we all agreed to
set up an organization for Palaung youth, called the Palaung Students Yout
Organization (PSYO).
(2)After the assassination of the Chairman of the Palaung Students Youth
Organization in 1994, we had a lot of problems, and the organization was
stopped until 1996. We started up again in 1997.
(3)There was a second meeting at the Thai-Burma border on the 25th to 27th
of December, 1998. At this meeting, the Palaung Students Youth Organization
was renamed as the Palaung Youth Network Group (PYNG).
The Palaung Youth Network Group responsibilities are as follows:
(1) Mai Aik Ba Coordinator
(2) Mai Aik Long member
(3) Mai Aik Minn "
(4) Ma Aye Main "
(5) Ma Nang Kham "
(6) Mai Chit Maung "
(7) Mai Aik Daine "
(8) Mai Aik Phone contact person and in charge of the office
(4)ACTIVITIES:
To train the committee members to implement their tasks.
To educate young Palaung people about human rights and democracy.
To upgrade knowledge about human rights and democracy in our communities.
To inform the world about the human rights, political, social,
economic, educational and health situation in our Palaung land.
To collect information about human rights abuses and publish newsleters.
To educate young Palaung people about HIV/AIDS and self-reliance and to
prevent narcotic drug addiction and the trafficking of women for
sexual exploitation.
(5)AIMS: (by non-violence)
(As related to Burma and the Palaung lands:)
(1) To free all nationalities from oppression.
(2) To remove dictatorship and rebuild genuine peace.
(3) To oppose narrow racism.
(4) To gain a nationwide cease-fire and tripartite dialogue.
(5) To fully obtain democracy and human rights.
(6) To gain national equality and rights of self-determination.
(7) To establish a genuine federal union of Burma comprised of national
states having equal standing.
(8) To maintain cultural values and a national identity.
(9) To decrease narcotic drug production and use.
