BANGKOK, May 2 (Reuters) - About 20 armed Myanmar men and ethnic Karens
crossed into Thailand and attacked a Thai police outpost, police said on
Sunday.

They said four police officers at the remote outpost in the northern Mae
Hong Son province, about two km (1.2 miles) from the Myanmar border, were
not hurt in the 2 a.m. attack on Saturday.

But the police station's walls were punctured with about 300 bullet holes
from automatic rifles and several M-79 grenades.

Police said the motive for the attack was unclear but could have been linked
to recent police efforts to stop ethnic Karens from stealing Thai-owned
river boats.

Three Thai villagers taken hostage by the Myanmar and Karen intruders were
later released unharmed, police said.
