Nobel winner marks Burma's annulled election
The Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi has
delivered a speech to a gathering of about five-hundred
supporters to mark the ninth anniversary of Burma's
election which was annulled by the military regime.
Her party, the National League for Democracy, won the
1990 election by a huge margin but the military has
never let the parliament meet.
Meanwhile a senior member of the military government,
Lieutenant-General Khin Nyunt, used the anniversary to
say Burma is on the right political track.
He again said that the administration is laying the
foundation for the establishment of a democratic system.
