PLA and Myanmar

NE ultras extending operational bases
IMPHAL, June 5 ? Several underground organisations
are strengthening themselves in Manipur by inducting
fresh recruits and extending their ?bases? in
neighbouring countries, official sources said here on
Saturday, reports PTI.
NSCN (1-M) had regrouped its scattered cadre during
the ceasefire and had e quipped itself with
sophisticated arms, the sources said.
Sources said banned United Nations Liberation Front
(UNLF), People?s Liberation Army (PLA) and Kuki
National Front (KNF) had expanded their operational
bases in the recent past in different parts of the
region, while some PLA cadre had been given shelter in
Myanmar territory by some armymen of that country.
Myanmar?s involvement follows its unhappiness over
Indian government?s providing shelter to Myanmar
students and activists fighting for restoration of
democracy in that country, the sources said. Several
outfits also agreed to operate jointly on several
occasions and UNLF was expanding its area of operation
from valley districts to hill districts particularly
in Chandel and Churachandpur, they added.
