students occupied Pacrim!!!!

Dear activists,

On the second successful day of Free Burma 9999 campaign tour of ABSDO and
NUS , we occupied the head office of Australia based Multi national oil
giant , Pacrim Energy. Please pass this message around to other activists.

This is the first report from the protest in Brisbane Australia against he
Pacrim Energy oil company which has 8 million dollars project in Burma.

About 40 students with banners and whistles, run onto the two storey head
office of Pacrim energy Oil company and occupied the building for an hour
until police drag them out.

Students were chanting ' Free Burma , Pacrim out' several times while they
demand to have urgent meeting with the managers who were just 10 steps away
in his room. Students occupied and lock up the main meeting room while
police started to use pepper spray . Students run out to the corridor
chanting Free Burma , Pacrim out'. About twenty police enter the corridor
and grabbing students one by one to empty the office. Students again
blocked the main gate to prevent the police van from leaving the compound
urge the police to release detained students . a number students were
arrested, 9 ( 4 Burmese , 5 Australian) of them were taken to police station
. all released on bail after several hours in detention.

The company manager was reported to speak to the TV that his main concern is
the share holders not Burmese people. ( The news of protest went on all
commercial TVs and all radio and a few papers.

The Australian students spoken out on TV that the oil company involvement in
Burma is simply wrong as it is not dealing with democratically elected

government of the people. Students demand to stop all Australian business
including PAcrim until CRPP has convened people's parliament.

As global day of action 9999 is approaching fast , the political campaign to
recognize CRPP, economic sanctions , boycott companies, many actions are
lined up to intensify across Australia lead-up to 9th of September 1999.
More details of this protest will be reported soon.
