Burma Out! Mandela :: The BurmaNet (r)

Subject: Re: Burma Out! Mandela :: The BurmaNet News: June 14, 1999

I disagree with Roger's message below. Persuasive diplomacy is
done behind closed doors, not in open forums. The invitation to the
dictator is a public relations fiasco, for the south african democracy,
and a coup to advance the prestige and might of the burmese
dictatorship. Anything second guessing so-called artful carrot and stick
initiatives is random fanciful thinking. If Mandela was sincere about
urging democratic change in Burma, why then hasn't he done so. Instead,
this is what we get today. Bravo! Please save your wisdom and faith
for bold leadership, and not bowing down to dictators. thank you, dawn
star

ps there are plenty of diplomatic and private places where important
powerful leaders can meet to get eye to eye straight talk. and this
party time inauguration on the world's public stage is not it.
