Burma excluded from ILO aid

The International Labour Organisation has decided not to provide assistance
to Burma because of what it says is the country's widespread use of forced
labour.

An ILO meeting in Geneva adopted a resolution condemning Burma.

The organisation alleges that forced labour is used in Burma on
infrastructure projects and as porters for the army.

The resolution said that Rangoon could no longer benefit from ILO technical
aid or attend its meetings.

The ILO , the United Nations' labour agency, has no mechanism for formally
expelling members.
