DRUG TRAFFICKING: BURMA & THE UNITED STATES

In the eyes of the Unted States Burma is still a  major illicit drug
producing and/or major illicit drug transit  country. DEA, CIA and
Department of State are putting onerous efforts to stop drug trafficking
from Burma. DEA has over a dozen agents all over Southeast Asia. DEA's
responsibilities include detecting drug traffic into the United States. DEA
did engage itself to kill Khun Sa in the past decade. Yet it was
unsucessful. DEA would know if  its agent's gun fire missed Khun Sa for real
or accidentally on purpose. 

DEA has also to report to the President of the United States on drug
trafficking activities worldwide.DEA does share information with other
government agencies of the United States. On the other hand, the United
States government shares information with the foreign governments. Despite
the fact that DEA of the American embassy in Rangoon  has been giving
limited assistance to Burma, the ruling junta should not boast too much
about it. 

The U.S. Department of State is offering rewards of up to $2,000,000 for
information leading to the arrest or conviction of major drug traffickers,
or for information that helps law enforcement authorities seize major drug
shipments.KHUN SA has been one of the most wanted drug traffickers so
far.WEI HSUEH-KANG ,YANG WAN-HSUAN  and CHANG PING-YUN are also from Burma.
They are also on the list of the most wanted criminals by the United States.
The Burmese generals reasoned not not extradite Khun Sa to the United States
for two causes: There is no extradition agreement between Burma and the
United States and Khun Sa  gave his money to the generals. Instead of
charging Khun Sa with drug trafficking offences, the generals even gave him
business licenses and armed guards around his house in [deleted].

The Burmese generals' lame  reasons for not being able to control drug
trafficking are lack of access and technology and equipment  to financial
records and to stop money laundering. DEA knows far better how to deal with
such a government that has only shallow ideas to get money from anywhere.
