Indonesia: One Struggle, One Change

Indonesia: One Struggle, One Change
In 1965, the U.S. backed Suharto dictatorship was responsible for one of
the worst mass murders of the twentieth century. The Indonesian military
rounded up and slaughtered over half a million leftists, peasants and
East Timorese. In the last 30 years, the ruling classes have enriched
themselves while the vast majority have been ground into deeper poverty.
In 1999 the people rebelled and brought down the Suharto regime. Now
Megewati Soekarnoputri, an opposition leader and daughter of Indonesia's
founding father, Sukarno, stands to become Prime Minister of the world's
fourth most populated nation.
