YANGON (July 3) XINHUA - Myanmar will participate in an
international trade fair beginning from October 19, 1999
in
Johannesburg, South Africa#, to display its wide range of
               products.

It was disclosed by First Secretary of the Myanmar State
Peace and Development Council Lieutenant General Khin
Nyunt at a commercial affairs meeting here Friday.

Khin Nyunt said that he saw the potentials of trade
between
Myanmar and South Africa while attending the inauguration
ceremony of newly-elected President of South Africa Thabo
               Mbeki last month.

He believes that Myanmar has many products which will be
               popular in South Africa.

He said Myanmar's participation in this trade fair will
benefit
both nations by helping promote the development of
bilateral
               trade and economy.

Myanmar ministries and national entrepreneurs will
display
and sell their goods at the fair.

It is the second time for Myanmar to take part in the
trade fair
               held in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Myanmar will hold an international trade fair
here
in September this year and another one in Bangkok,
               Thailand to promote bilateral trade.

According to official statistics, Myanmar's foreign trade
amounted to 3.96 billion U.S. dollars in 1998, up 31
percent
               over the previous year.
