The 1999 World Population Day held at International Centre

YANGON, 11 July- The 1999 World Population Day was held at International 
Centre on Pyay Road this morning, with an address by Minister for Immigration 
and Population U Saw Tun. 

Also present on the occasion were ministers, the Chief Justice, the 
Attorney-General, the Auditor-General, the deputy ministers, heads of the 
embassies and officials, the resident representatives of the United Nations 
Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) and officials of UN agencies, 
personnel of Non-Governmental Organizations, officials, prize winners and 
guests.


Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun delivered an address. He 
said:


It gives me a great pleasure to address this auspicious gathering on the 
Occasion of the Commemoration of I World Population Day which falls on today. 
The theme of this year commemoration is ?Decisions for Twenty-first Century, 
Choice and Responsibility?.

Resident Representative of UNFPA Mr Patrice Coeurbizot gave a speech. 


Director-General Col Tin Yi of Population Department read the message from 
Executive Director Dr Nafis Sadik of UNFPA.


The UNFPA showed the video feature n commemoration of 1999 World Population 
Day.
Then, Minister U Saw Tun, Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Minister Lt-Gen Min Thein 
, Minister U Win Sein and Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin presented prizes to the 
winners in translation competition in commemoration of 1999 World Population 
Day.


Director-General Col Tin Yi presented gifts to officials of the organizations 
who assisted to hold the ceremony in commemoration of the World Population 
Day.
