Statement on the Anniversary of the 7th July,
Student Uprising of Burma

Date:  7th July 1999

The 7th July 1999 marks the anniversary of the Rangoon University student's
uprising occurred on the 7th July 1962.

On the day the Rangoon University students encamped at the Rangoon University
compound and staged a peaceful demonstration against the illegal seizure of
the
State Power by the dictator General Ne Win led military.  The University
students demanded the re-establishment of Democracy in Burma.

The General Ne Win's henchman Army rounded the Rangoon University compound and
brutally crushed the students' demonstration.  Hundreds of students were shot
dead as the military shot at every people found in the Rangoon University
compound.  To be the worst, the military demolished the Students' Union
Building by using explosives in the early morning on the 8th July 1962 to
terminate all the potential students' movements against the military dictators
in the future.

Until now the whole Burma is being destroyed under the military dictatorship.
All the students as well as the people who try to re-establish the
democracy in
Burma are being persecuted, arrested and killed.

The Arakan League for Democracy pay tribute to those who sacrificed their
lives
in the 7th July 1962 Students' Uprising and strongly denounce the General
Ne Win
led military dictators.

We, the Arakan League for Democracy, also vow to fight until the end of
military dictator and the re-establishment of democracy in Burma.
