S.H.A.N. source in the north reported yesterday that traffic in a border =
town
were held up by the police in order to sell tickets for a fashion show.=20

On the evening of 7 July, motorcycles and cars in Muse, the border town =
with
China, were stopped by the local police who forcefully sold the =
occupants one
ticket each for a fashion show organized by the local authorities. "We =
heard it
was a colonel from Mong Ko who contracted this team of famous models =
from
Rangoon and Mandalay", said one local citizen.=20

The tickets were sold at three prices: K. 1,000, K. 1,500 and K. 2,000. =
"For
those who refused to buy, the police just took away the ignition keys =
until the
drivers complied with their condition".=20

The tickets were for the evenings of 9 July and 11 July at the town =
stadium.=20

"They had done the same thing last year during the Shan New Year. =
Vehicles that
were heading for the Shan festival ground and not to the stadium where a
traveling Burmese dramatic troupe was performing were held up and =
demanded to
pay K. 500 each", said the source. "They cleared about K. 300,000 then". =
