(1)     Launching of Multimedia CD-ROM on Life of the Buddha

        Launching  ceremony of the Life of the Buddha Multimedia CD-ROM 
produced by Myanmar Inforithm Ltd. with the supervision of the Ministry of 
Religious  Affairs was held at the International Business Centre on 31 July, 
with an address by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council 
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Tri Pitaka (Myanmar translation) was put in CD-ROM and a 
group of young men from Myanmar Inforithm Ltd. tried to put illustrated 
Buddhology book created by artist U Ba Kyi in the CD-ROM.  Myanmar children, 
youths and foreigners can study Buddhology in English, Chinese and Japanese. 
He spoke on endeavours based on information technology by technicians, 
opening of multimedia classrooms in education, production of CD-ROM software, 
promotion and propagation of Theravada Buddhism through CD-ROM. Managing 
Director of Myanmar Inforithm Ltd.  U Chit Tun Pe reported on CD-ROM arranged 
in Myanmar, English, Japanese and Chinese. He presented 625 CD-ROMs to the 
Ministry of Religious Affairs, 63 to Higher Education Department, 562 to 
Basic Education Department and 100 to Young Men's Buddhist Association 
(YMBA). The CD-ROM was produced based on illustrated Buddhology book 
published by YMBA. The book was written by Amarapura Maha Gandhayon 
Kyaungtaik Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Ashin Janakabhivamsa and illustrated 
pictures were drawn by famous artist U Ba Kyi. The CD-ROM includes the life 
of Buddha with 36 chapters and it contributes toward promotion and 
propagation of the Theravada Buddhism.

(2)     Myanmar Agriculture Delegation Leaves for Thailand

        At the invitation of the Chairman of CP Group Co. of Thailand, a 
10-member Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Agriculture and 
Irrigation left Yangon by air on 31 July. The delegation will study advanced 
cultivation and production of paddy, maize, soya-bean and fruits and will 
discuss bilateral cooperation in projects with the CP Group Company.

(3)     Remnant Armed Group Members Exchange Arms for Peace

        Members of the armed groups who exchanged arms for peace in June 1999 
were secretary of BCP (Rakhine) group U Raweinda (a) U Kyaw Hla Oo and 
in-charge for NLD group of western area U Sanda (a) U Saw Maung in Western 
Command area, Pvt Maung Soe of SNPLO armed group, Pvt Kyaw Swa of Democratic 

Party for New Society and Pvt Kyaw Soe (a) Myat Soe of KNPP armed group in 
Eastern Command area, Pvt Kan Na of SURA armed group in Triangle Region 
Command area, Pvt Aung Kyaw Oo of No2 Brigade and Pvt Nyunt Shwe of No 8 
Battalion of No 3 Brigade of KNU armed group, Pvt Hla Myint of BCP armed 
group, customs section in-charge Kye Maung of No 11 Battalion and Pvt Ja Pan 
(a) Pho Thada of No 10 Battalion of KNU armed group in Costal Region Command 
area and Pvt Phone Myo of No 1 Brigade of KNU armed group in South-East 
Command area. Officials of the respective military camps welcomed the persons 
who exchanged arms for peace in June 1999 and fulfilled their requirements.

(4)     Myanmar Beat Japan 3-1 in Friendship Volleyball Match

        The second match of  Myanmar- Japan  friendship volleyball tournament 
was held at National Indoor Stadium-1 in Thuwunna Yangon on 31 July. In the 
match, Myanmar beat Japan 3-1. On 2 August, the Myanmar-Japan friendship 
volleyball tournament continues for the third match.
