World-wide Demonstrations Held in Remembrance of the 1988 Massacres in
Burma/Myanmar

7 - AUGUST, 1999
Rangoon Post

Free Burma groups in 12 of the 29 countries with Free Burma related
activists demonstrated and remembered the approxiamtely 10,000 dead of
the 1988 massacres in country of Burma by the military regime currently
in control of the country.
In Washington, D.C., 70 activists carried 9 coffins to and flowered
wreaths in a funeral march up Connecticut Avenue to the
pseudo-Ambassador's residence on R. Street while other demonstrations
occured in Philadelphia; Boston; Los Angeles; London, England; Tokyo,
Japan and many other cities around the globe.

The unelected regime has held power in Burma since a coop in 1962. As
of 1988, the year of the most bloody massacre, they committed another
coop within the ranks and changed their name to the SLORC- State Law and
Order Restoration Council. In 1990 they held elections and upon
loosing, acted childishly and refused to give in to the winners.
