Australia is seeking to convert its increasingly close diplomatic ties with
China into commercial gains, focusing on Bejing's expected decision later
this year on a potential supplier for liquefied natural gas. In recent
months, Australian government and business officials have been lobbying
China to buy 3 million tonnes of LNG annually for the next twenty years.
China's President , Jiang Zemin is expected to tour Australia early next
month en route to New Zealand for the APEC meeting. Australia's economic
interests on China, sidelining human rights situations there, are crystal
clear.

Australia aims to cash in on ties with China. How do we know Australia's
intentions of negociating between SPDC and NLD are genuine?Other points to
ponder are why SPDC is accepting the Australian solution without any querry
and why the HR Commisioner Sidoti failed to meet Aung San Suu Kyi, the
major opposition figure without whom a dialogue cannot be accomplished. What
other economic interests Australia has in Burma is yet to be known if there
are.
