0823-01 Indonesia's US$ 236 Million Investment In Myanmar to Go Up?
**A group of Indonesian entrepreneurs led by President Director of the PT
Surya To To Indonesia Tbk met on 19 August with Investment commission
officials.

Regional cooperation, in the era of globalization, is prime goal of the
ASEAN nations. Indonesia participated actively, as an economically vibrant
country, into investing in Myanmar. According to a survey 8 Indonesian
companies invested US$ 236 million   in oil exploration, manufacturing and
garment sector in Myanmar.

0823-02 First Land Trip to Yangon Via Thailand
**Asia 1 Travel and Tour, a veteran land operator in Mae Sot district, Tak
Province, Thailand sold berths on the first-ever overland caravan linking
Thailand and Yangon, the capital of Myanmar.

The Thailand-Myanmar overland tour, called Myanmar Explore Overland, from
Mae Sot departed with a group of travel agents and journalists.  After the
test run with agents, the company intends to organize a series of trips to
Yangon, passing through the Mae Sot checkpoint.

The caravan will cross the Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Border Bridge at Mae
Sot and follow the route Myawaddy- Krokalek - Hpa'an- Mawlamyaing- Mottama-
Thaton, Kyaiktiyo (Golden Rock) - Bago- Yangon- Bagan- Mandalay- Inle.

The trip can be arranged from 4 days-3 nights to nine-days/eight nights,
traveling by car with an optional return by air.

0823-03 Promising Paddy Cultivation in Rice Bowl Region this Year
**Plans are underway in Bago Division, the rice bowl of Myanmar, for the
systematic cultivation and storage of paddy and rice.

The moisture content of soil and good availability of water in the Bago
Division makes it one of the massive paddy cultivation areas.

Agriculture sector serves as one of Myanmar's economic backbones,
contributing about 40 % to the GDP (growth per domestic product). A huge
chunk of the 40 % is credited to Bago Division. This year the total paddy
cultivated acreage in Bago division alone is above 2.4 million already.

Myanmar has vast areas of land that can be cultivated. Currently only 13%
of total 67.6 million hectares has been cultivated.

0823-04 Maxell Audio Launches Sales Promotions
**Hitachi Maxell  (Singapore) Pte Ltd on 19 August evening rallied a sales
promotion ceremony at the Traders Hotel in Yangon.

The Managing Director from Maxell Asia (Singapore) Pte Ltd. formally
launched the promotion ceremony. The sales promotion program includes free
overseas trips and in particular, to Singapore.

The economic crisis did not seem to take its toll on Myanmar's electronics
business.  Demands are still high for electronic entertainment equipment
nationwide. Big brands like National Panasonic, Toshiba, Sony, Sanyo,
Daewoo are doing good business. Daewoo has its own assembly plant and
Toshiba too will have one soon.


0823-05 Int'l Business Procedures Seminar For Local Businessmen
**Myanma Federation of Commerce and Industries and Myanmar Industries
Association in cooperation with the International Chamber of Commerce, Asia
will hold ICC Tools For International Business Seminar.  This aims to give
Myanmar Business community a better understanding of the international
trading rules and regulations and to systematically utilize it in order to
gain better profits in trading.

The topics of the seminar will include the roles of International Chamber
of Commerce, International trading terms (Incoterms), inter country trading
deeds, Inter National Custom matters and on arbitration law.

The Myanmar Federation of Commerce and Industries is a member of
international Chamber of Commerce based in Paris. It has 13 work committees
and signed 13 MOU with Asian and European countries. The seminar starts
from 30 August.

0823-06 Air Mandalay To Launch Direct Bagan-Thandwe Route
**Air Mandalay a Joint venture airline company is to launch direct flight
from Bagan to Thandwe (in Myanmar's Rakhine State) every Sundays, from 22nd
October.

The direct air link between Bagan, most famous tourist attraction site in
country and Thandwe, famous for its seaside Ngapali beach, will make it
convenient for tourists to visit both places. The airline has planned to
add more flights once it achieves its 50-passengers per flight goal. From
22nd October, three flights a week schedule will be arranged (Wednesdays,
Fridays, and Sundays for Yangon-Thandwe-Yangon routes).

Air Mandalay has recently extended routes to the country's northeast region.
