Letters to the Editor

Dear Sirs:

Many thanks for broadening the world-view of Journal readers by focusing
attention on the often overlooked country of Burma, "Myanmar general threatens
to wipe out dissenters" (Sunday, August 22, 1999, pg. A12)  The military
rulers
of Burma are among the world's most brutal.  Obviously they are also among the
most stupid, to publically threaten to annihilate those Burmese who still dare
to yearn for basic democracy and human rights.

As the article pointed out, the military junta is afraid of the date September
9th, that this coming 9-9-99 might see another popular uprising by unarmed
citizens against their thuggish rulers.  Please keep your readership apprised
of any major developments in Burma next month.
