WHAT WILL AVERT THE '99 UPRISING?

Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II all enjoy firmly
established  reputations as giants of the late twentieth century. Each
will
be remembered  for unwavering stands that hastened the demise of the
Soviet
Union and its gobal empire of anti-democratic power and ideology. So
will
Aung San Suu Kyi who sacrificed her individual  rights, and family which
is
what Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul  II  did not
have
to sacrifice. As for General Mg Aye, Vice Chairman of the SPDC and Lt.
General Khin Nyunt, Chief of the military intelligence still have time
to
save themselves from being listed as monsters in history. Ne Win has
already
been blacklisted. If there's a will, there's a way. It's less than two
weeks
away before the nationwide upheaval is going to explode.

There is still time for the regime to say "they want to have a dialogue
with
NLD, the people's party supported by nations of the world". The regime's
gesture to start a dialogue with NLD will defuse the tight political
gridlock in Burma. Protests that will  go on all over Burma will come to
a
halt. The regime need not place its troops in a stand-by position
everywhere
in Burma to show the regime's paranoia. Even inflation rate will become
low.
This is how realistic it is going to be as long as the regime willingly
annunciates that a dialogue is a possibility instead of being naysayers
to
NLD and the people.

There is a cold war going on in Burma. Wars force people to take sides.
The
SPDC has only a handful of army officers taking sides with them. The
people
take sides with NLD. The 1990 elections results have already proved it.
The
regime should no longer have fear of democratic ideas. Peace restored by
force will last only a while. Peace restored with the people's will 
last
forever. The solution is a dialogue.
