Agricultural inputs handed over for
cultivation of opium substitute crops
YANGON, 30 Aug - A ceremony to hand over
agricultural inputs provided by Japan to be
used in boosting food production and growing
opium substitute crops at the border areas,
took place at Pyinmabin Depot On Pale Myothit
Road in Mingaladon Township this morning .
Present on the occasion were minister for
Progress of Border Areas and National Races
and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt,
Deputy Ministers U Kyaw Tin and Brig-Gen
Than Tun, Director-General of the Department
for Progress of Border Areas and National Races
Col Wunna Maung Lwin, Director-General of
Development Col Myo Myint, Deputy Director-
General of Myanmar Police Force Police
Brig- Hla Tin, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kamo
and Minister-Counselor Mr Naoki Ito, Mr T
Yoshida and Mr T Iwasaki of Japan International
Cooperation Agency, Mr Richard Dickins of UNDCP,
officials of Myanma Agriculture Services and
representatives of national races from border
areas.
Director-General Col Wunna Maung Lwin explained
matters related to boosting food production,
condition of farm equipment imported for the
use of cultivating opium substitute crops,
distribution of farm equipment to border areas,
improvement of national races from border
areas and cultivation of opium substitute
crops.
Then, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kamo and
Mr Richard Dickins of UNDCP made speeches.

Mr Kamo, Mr Richard Dickins and Mr T Yoshida
handed over documents related to farm
equipment to representatives of national
races.
Director-General Col Wunna Maung Lwin
also presented documentary video tapes and
photos on efforts for boosting food production,
arrival of fertilizers and farm equipment for
cultivation of opium substitute crops,
systematic storage and distribution of
fertilizers and farm equipment to border
areas. On behalf of representatives,
representative U Aung Myint from Wa region
spoke words of thanks.
After the ceremony, the minister, the guests
and representatives inspected farm equipment to
be sent to border areas.
Today, trucks loaded with fertilizers left
for Wa region, Kokang region and Kachin Special
Region-l and trucks loaded with
tractors left for Chin region.
