0902-01 Myanmar Drums Up Bilateral Relations with 4 More Countries
**The special envoy of the Head of State Deputy Minister for Foreign
Affairs, U Khin Maung Win visited Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran during
his course of tour. Myanmar envoy cordially exchanged views for further
promoting bilateral relations and cooperation. 

Myanmar is actively promoting its trade internationally and is looking to
expand its trade to Africa. Myanmar businessman will display their products
at the trade fair, which will be staged in South Africa this October.

0902-02 Local Ceramic & Glass Technicians Get Japan Scholarships 
**14 Myanmar Ceramic technicians attended the one-month training sponsored
by Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship of Japan. The Japanese
association will also sponsor a glass technology training starting from
31st August in Yangon.

0902-03 New Ayeyawady Bridge Soon, Public Works Now Bidding
**Public Works Department of Ministry of Construction is currently seeking
quotations for the design, fabrication, supply of materials, erection
equipment and supervision work for erection of steel truss for Ayeyawady
River crossing from Magwe, about 530 km from Yangon. 

This Ayeyawady Bridge (Magwe) is the third of its kind under construction
across Ayeyawady River, which is the longest river in country.  It flows
from northern Kachin Hills to Ayeyawady Delta before it flows into Andaman
Sea, in Southern Myanmar.
    
0902-04 Japanese Insurance Companies Showing Interest in Myanmar
**The Yasuda Fire & Marine Insurance Company of Japan held a seminar in
Yangon on 30 August. The Japanese Insurance specialists explain the
insurance matter in seminar.

Another insurance company, Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance Company Ltd. is
working very hard to establish the joint venture company between Mitsui
Marine and Myanmar Insurance.

State owned Myanmar Insurance is the only insurance institution in country.
It underwrites 17 classes of insurance. Myanmar Insurance rate and premium
are competitive compared to those in the Asian region.  

0902-05 Internet Connection Ready For Testing
**Myanma Post and Telegraph authorities are readying Internet connection in
the country. Plans are underway for testing Internet.

Myanmar expects to start using Internet before the year 2000, Myanmar Post
and Telegraph (MPT), as a provider will grant 500 connections nationwide at
the first stage. 400 connections will be for the capital Yangon alone.
Priority will be given to the business and other organizations than to
individuals.
