Production Potential

Myanma Agriculture  Service in Myanmar is planning
to  grow   commercially   (4000)acres  of  Roselle
(Hisbiscus  Spp) this year  whose  calyx  could be
used to produce  dyes for  foodstuff.  The  actual
acerage planted last year has been (285) acres and
(800) acres are now being grown this year starting
from  Mid of July  1999.  An acre of  Roselle  can
produce  (50-60)  kilograms of dried calyx so that
the potential production for (4000) acres would be
about (200) MT.

The dried calyx which fetched US $ (1250) PMT last
year has been  sold out to  Dr.Peter  P.  Inden of
the following  address.  The quantity sold is (14)
MT.
