Junta Commanders Also Plunder Spoils From Each Other
It was reported by DIN, S.H.A.N.'s source in the north, that a dispute had
broken out between Burmese commanders for infringing each other's
operational areas to catch contraband.
The dispute arose after Col. Soe Yi, Commander of the Military Operations
Command from 105th Milestone Camp near Muse of Shan State, across from
Ruili of Yunnan, staged a surprise raid on the village of Nawngmawn, Bhamo
Township, Kachin State at 10:30, on 3 September. The colonel and his
raiding party put into custody 4 trucks. They also made a house-to-house
search and confiscated goods bearing Chinese brands and took them into Shan
territory.
"One of the trucks was a B.E. Number plate Ba. 5602", said DIN. "The owners
of the goods were also arrested".
According to DIN, the Colonel's irregular behavior was caused by the fact
that there were more traders crossing the border into Bhamo than into
either Namkham or Muse which fall under his jurisdiction.
"The traders like Bhamo routes better", said DIN, "because they have to pay
less to the authorities".
The incident caused an uproar between authorities in Bhamo and Col. Soe Yi,
because the latter's raid was executed without prior notification to the
former.
"Col. Soe Yi is one of the richest commanders in the SPDC", added DIN.
