YANGON: Myanmar is hosting a global gems trade fair and gem traders from
11 countries are expected in the country this weekto bid for nearly $13
million of precious stones for sale, deputy minister of mines Min Myint
Thein said on Monday. <br>
<br>
Organized by the state Myanmar Gems Enterprise, it will offer some $7.2
million worth of jade, which is mined in northern and eastern Myanmar,
also known as Burma, as well as gems, pearls and jewellery. <br>
<br>
Over 300 traders are due in Yangon, including some 200 from Hong Kong,
for the five-day gems emporium starting Wednesday, the minister said.

Some $7.7 million worth of precious stones will be up for auction, $3.8
million worth will be sold by tender and $1.2 million worth will be
offered at fixed prices, he said.</font>
