Subject: Declaration condemning forcible entry into and looting of Myanmar Embassy
Declaration condemning forcible entry into and looting of Myanmar Embassy on
pretext of democracy
Dated 11th October 1999
1. Union Kayin League strongly denounces the forcible entry into the looting
of the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, by a group of terrorists at a
time when the Tatmadaw government is not only building the Union of Myanmar
to become a modern and developed nation but also exerting its efforts for
winning national re-consolidation through the National Convention, as the
acts of the group of destructive elements no matter how much they tried to
sound good on the pretext of democracy were terrorists acts.
2. It must be assumed that the Thai government, which failed to give
adequate security to prevent the intrusion into the Embassy representing
Myanmar in the broad daylight by the group of armed terrorists, is mainly
responsible.
Moreover, we of the Union Kayin League strongly and seriously denounce
the statement ?They are not terrorists, they are students, who fight for
democracy, we have given them safe passage to their own country. We don?t
consider them to be terrorists. They are students? made by Deputy Prime
Minister and Interior Minister of Thailand Mr. Sanan Kachornprasart in
expressing his attitude, as it is an irresponsible statement by an official
of the Thai government.
3. In addition to strongly denouncing the internal/external organizations
and media which had given encouragement and support to the forcible armed
intrusion into and looting of the sovereign Myanmar Embassy by the group of
armed terrorists even though it is a terrorists act, we shall have to assume
that the Thai government, which has the duty to safeguard against
transgression of the Embassy premises in accord with the Article 22 of the
Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations, to which the world nations have
agreed to adhere, should be held mainlyresponsible for being the host nation
and for having transported the terrorists to safety in Thailand.
We seriously demand the Thai government to take measures to arrest the
terrorists, who can be presumed to be still in Thailand, and to take action
against them in accord with the international law at the earliest.
International terrorism shall certainly fall.
