1015-01 Myanmar Cigarettes Find Market In Russia
**According to the agreement reached between Myanmar Billion Group, a
highly credible Myanmar export company and a Russian company this
September, Myanmar made London brand cigarettes will be exported to Russia
in the near future.

The London brand cigarette is produced by the Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar
Pte Ltd, which is planning to introduce several new cigarette brands for
the Myanmar market.

1015-02 China-Myanmar Sea & Land Link Pact Soon
**A discussion was held between the Myanmar transport authorities and a
16-member Chinese delegation about a draft treaty for the opening of new
land and sea links between China and Myanmar.

Currently, the southern Chinese province of Yunnan is accessible from
Myanmar via Yangon-Muse Highway (a Myanmar border town close to
Chinese-Myanmar border) and Yangon-Chinshwehaw Highway (another Myanmar
border town near China).

The construction of new container port is under way in Myanmar's
northwestern town of Bhamo, to be utilized as opening for the Yunnan
province. Bhamo and Yunnan's provincial capital Kunming can be linked via
land routes. Travelling by Yunnan to Bhamo, the rest of the Myanmar cities
can be reached via water route across Ayeyawady River and also via land
routes.

1015-03 New Power Plant Completed In 2001
**Myanmar's Electric Enterprise and Citic Technology Company of China are
building a new hydroelectric plant in northwestern Myanmar province of
Sagaing.

The construction of the power plant is expected to finish before the end of
the 2000-2001 fiscal year. The plant's electricity generating capacity
stands at 117.2 million kilowatt per hour annually. .

The Chinese company started the construction of the hydro power plant in
1997 and the total construction cost is around US$ 22 million.

Three more power plants are under construction across Myanmar. These three
plants can generate over 1200 Megawatt of electricity.

1015-04 Myanmar Whisky Exported To Vietnam
**Locally made Grand Royal Whisky brand is preparing to penetrate the
international market.

Myanmar based International Beverages Trading Company started the
manufacture of Grand Royal Whisky in collaboration with the Vietnamese
D.T.L Company last October.

1015-05 Panamanian Cement Factory To Start Production
**A Myanmar-based Panamanian company has completed the construction of a
cement factory in Yangon's Thilawa Industrial area.

The Panamanian company Zarembo Investment Company invested over US$ 30
million in Myanmar for the cement production.

The factory officials are bent on securing lesser cement imports and
control the cement price locally, after the factory starts its production.

1015-06 Year 2000 Myanmar Trade Fair
**Myanmar's Commerce Ministry and Laser World Company is preparing for the
Year 2000 Myanmar Trade Fair to be held in Yangon from 8 to 11 January next
year.

Staging of the fair is aimed for the development of Myanmar economy and to
woo more foreign investments into the country.

Both Myanmar and foreign companies will display consumer products,
computers, and high-tech electronics devices at the fair.

Yangon is preparing to stage two more International trade exhibitions
before the end of this year.

1015-07 Myanmar Statistics

1 Myanmar Central Statistical Organization conducted a survey in southern
Mon province last week on infant mortality. It is currently at the 4.8%
rate.
2. Myanmar agreed to reduce its tariff on goods imported from ASEAN
countries with tariffs ranging from zero to 5% by the Year 2005. Myanmar
will make its market tariff free for ASEAN countries by the year 2018.
3. Myanmar's southwestern rice growing Ayeyawady province has grown paddy
on 3.3 million acres of land this year. Compared to last year's, the
province has increased its paddy cultivation by 3 % this year. The area's
per acre paddy yield is around 60 bushels.
