AUSSIE'S TRUE SKIN (r)

Trade sanctions have been renewed year after year.

When did trade sanctions come into effect? Executive Order 13047 (signed
into effect on May 20, 1997 and renewed every six months since then)
prohibits 'new investment' but 'does not prohibit the entry into,
performance of, or financing of a contract to sell or purchase goods,
services, or technology'.

A note posted on the Net a few weeks ago indicated that the US Department
of
Commerce estimates that the value of imports to the US in calendar 1998 was
$US 164 million and in the first half of 1999 was $US 98 million. Garment
trade was said to account for 80% of the imports.

It would be helpful to have the Bloomberg article referred to in 'Aussie's
True Skin' posted on the Net, if anyone has access to it. Also Australian
trade figures with Burma

I found the title to this posting to be in poor taste, given the strong
commitment and sterling efforts of Australians of many racial origins to
the struggle against Burma's military regime.
